Fixing Our Eyes on Jesus and Our Final Destination

The Christian life is a journey — and like every journey, it has a destination. Scripture reminds us that our final destination is eternity with Christ, and we must keep our eyes fixed on Him as we travel through the earth and navigate different life situations.

The story of Moses in Numbers 20 offers a sobering lesson. At Kadesh-Barnea, the Israelites faced another crisis: there was no water and they spoke against God. In frustration, Moses struck the rock twice instead of speaking to it as God commanded. Water still flowed; because God is faithful, but Moses’ disobedience cost him entry into the Promised Land.

Many Israelites also died in the wilderness because of repeated disobedience. Scripture is clear: disobedience leads to death, not only physically but spiritually also, separating us from the life God intends.

This story speaks to us today. Some of us may have “stayed too long” at a spiritual transit point, stuck in habits or attitudes we consider small or harmless. Others may feel weary, tempted to give up like the Israelites who complained and doubted God’s plan. Leaders may be tempted to focus on visible ministry success while neglecting God’s specific instructions.

Yet God’s call remains the same: return to obedience, fix your eyes on Jesus, and walk in holiness. The New Testament echoes this repeatedly and blessed are those who hear God’s Word and obey it.

Maybe through this message you’ve realised you are living in sin or disobedience and need forgiveness. Look to Jesus, who died for you on the cross. Turn away from your sins and ask Him to wash them away. He is ready to receive you with mercy. God is inviting you today to love Him wholeheartedly, seek His mercy, and follow Him faithfully toward your eternal destination in Christ Jesus. Amen.
