Who has believed this report?- Isaiah 53

Isaiah 53 is the climax of the Prophet’s ministry and gospel preaching. The chapter lays out the purpose for the Messiah’s coming and the reasons for His death.
In Psalm 22, David prophesied about how the Messiah would die when he cried out, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” David went on to say, “They pierced My hands and My feet; they divide My clothing,” and he cried out, “It is finished… for the Lord has done it.”

The Apostle Peter, who preached after these prophecies were fulfilled, said:
“Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you, searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.”—1 Peter 1:10–11

The Apostle Peter is very clear: the Spirit of Christ was in the prophets—whether Elijah, Isaiah, David, or Jeremiah—when they spoke of our salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ.
But Isaiah asks you and me the question below:

  1. “Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?
  2. For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; and when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.
  3. He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
  4. Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.
  5. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.
  6. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”
    —Isaiah 53:1–6

Jesus died for sinners, and He is ready to save everyone who believes this report and testimony. It is my prayer that we all call upon Him, for it is written, “For everyone who shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.” —Romans 10:13
Each and every person needs salvation, for we have all gone our own way. But Jesus carried all our sins, and He was punished on our behalf.
This is the word of the Lord, and the Apostle Peter concluded:
“Prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.”—2 Peter 1:21
Amen.
